Hello! My name is Luce Burnford, the author of Wings and Well-being. This research paper has been my senior-year project in high school in Maryland. Alongside writing, I enjoy painting, birdwatching, horseback riding, rock climbing, and playing guitar. My love for nature—specifically birds—has been a guiding force in my life. Being a research intern at OneNature has been an incredible privilege, allowing me to contribute to meaningful conservation efforts.

As I prepare for my journey abroad, where I plan to continue advocating for bird conservation and research, I am grateful for the opportunities OneNature has given me to make an impact.

OneNature’s mission is built on the belief that well-being and conservation go hand in hand. What started as a small initiative has grown into a multi-faceted organization that promotes wildlife conservation, human connection to nature, and policies that support the health of all beings. Through continuous efforts, OneNature sparks hope for a world where nature and humanity thrive together, fostering long-term sustainability.

What inspires me most about OneNature’s work is its commitment to collaboration. Conservation is complex—it requires collective action. OneNature’s approach has reinforced my belief that no effort is too small when it comes to making a difference. Working with OneNature has provided me with an outlet for my passion for birds while deepening my understanding of how interconnected all species are. Conservation isn’t just about saving wildlife—it’s about sustaining ecosystems, cultures, and human well-being.

Birds are an essential part of our daily lives, ecosystems, and cultures. Found on every continent, they play diverse and crucial roles in maintaining balance in nature. With over 10,000 species of birds on Earth—and many already extinct—the need for bird conservation has never been more urgent.

Birds are impacted by pollution, climate change, habitat destruction, and urbanization. However, their conservation doesn’t just protect them—it protects biodiversity, ecosystems, and human well-being.

Environmental Importance Economic Value Mental & Physical Health Cultural & Spiritual Significance Given these far-reaching effects, protecting birds isn’t just about preserving a single species—it’s about safeguarding the health of our planet and all who inhabit it.

This research highlights the urgent need for policies and initiatives that:

As environmental challenges intensify, birds’ role in sustaining well-being becomes even more critical. By recognizing their full scope of impact, we can deepen our appreciation for these remarkable creatures and take meaningful steps toward ensuring that future generations can experience the joy and benefits that birds provide.

Bird conservation benefits the planet and all beings—humans included.

At OneNature, we are committed to fostering a world where humans and wildlife thrive together. We encourage you to learn more, take action, and support conservation efforts that prioritize well-being for all beings.

📩 Want to stay updated on our work? Sign up for our newsletter! Together, we can ensure that our feathered friends continue to enrich our world for generations to come.

Birds play a vital role in our ecosystems, economies, and well-being.
