Well-being for All Beings

OneNature brings a focus on human well-being to development, conservation, and climate projects, supporting transformational financial, programmatic, and community outcomes. We expand understanding and awareness of the wellbeing/conservation connection through data and stories that inspire hope and create transformational change.

Something's wrong with our system.

Research has shown that nature and wildlife are essential to human happiness. In fact, just viewing and experiencing nature can improve your mood, reduce stress and lower blood pressure.

Yet the value of wildlife is not reflected in the short-term economic metrics, such as GDP, that are currently used to measure what matters most to communities and society. At the same time, wild animals are disappearing from our planet at an alarming rate, with dozens of species going extinct every day.

We can fix it!

We measure what we value; we do what we measure–and what we measure can be transformed.

OneNature fills a vital gap in the movement to measure what really matters by developing metrics to capture the benefits that humans and animals provide each other – and showing how their well-being is interconnected.

By demonstrating these linkages, we can secure the survival of wildlife species and dramatically improve well-being for all beings.

Here's how...

OneNature protects wild animals and habitats by conducting research to demonstrate the value of wildlife conservation to healthy and happy human communities.

We use this research to empower community-based wildlife stewardship.

We are building a movement for transformative change where the true values of wildlife and nature are embedded in our policies and practice.

Featured Resource

Human societies have a long history of coexistence with wildlife. In honor of the International Day of Happiness, our speakers will discuss some examples of these powerful connections and the role they play in happiness and well-being.

These stories and lessons of cultural keystone species around the world can inspire us as we search for ways to address the current extinction crisis and can help us all develop and communicate a roadmap for ways to connect with wildlife in our own backyards.

Featuring panelists Gunjan Menon, Jason Baldes, Patience Kabamba, Roshan Patel, and Beth Allgood.

“Today we stand at a crossroads. Will we continue with “business as usual” in the mistaken notion that there can be unlimited economic development on a planet with finite natural resources and growing populations of humans and their livestock?… Or, shall we choose to get together and develop a new relationship with the natural world? A new relationship with other animals? A new and more equitable and sustainable, ‘greener’ economy? It will not be easy but I truly hope we do.”
