To celebrate and commemorate World Environment Day on June 5th, we are happy to announce a new partnership with Planet Happiness, a project of the Happiness Alliance, that focuses on the interconnection between human well-being and wildlife centered tourism.

At OneNature, we believe we must value and measure what really matters and move beyond GDP as a single measure of human progress. To improve community well-being and stop the species extinction crisis, we must understand and demonstrate the interconnection of wildlife and human well-being. OneNature does this by understanding and supporting the well-being of communities linked with wildlife conservation.

Planet Happiness focuses the attention of tourism stakeholders on the well-being agenda and uses tourism as a vehicle for development that demonstrably strengthens destination sustainability and the quality of life of host communities. Planet Happiness partners with tourism destinations and works with all tourism stakeholders to put host-community well-being front and center. They are also actively engaged in a global dialogue to address the sector’s biggest challenges, including carbon footprint and over-tourism issues.

Planet Happiness and OneNature recognize that the travel and tourism sector, and in particular wildlife centered ecotourism destinations have suffered devastating losses owing to COVID-19. We also know that wildlife centered ecotourism has been an important part of well-being for communities stewarding the world’s remaining wildlife. We believe it is time for wildlife centered tourism to evolve and place well-being front and center.

We are excited to partner with Planet Happiness to protect wild animals and habitats by conducting research that demonstrates the value of sustainable and regenerative wildlife tourism to healthy and happy human communities. Together we support these destination host-communities to flourish together with wildlife.
