World Health Day 2025 launches a year-long campaign led by the World Health Organization, focused on one of the most urgent and human issues of our time: maternal and newborn health. This year’s theme, “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures,” urges all of us—governments, communities, and global citizens—to prioritize the health and well-being of women and babies.

At OneNature, we know that thriving communities are at the heart of successful conservation—and that begins with the health and empowerment of women and families.

🌿 Why This Matters to OneNature

In many of the places where we work—from Rwanda to Laos to Kenya—women are not only caregivers and community leaders, but also environmental stewards and knowledge holders. Their well-being directly shapes the well-being of the people and ecosystems around them.

Supporting maternal health isn’t just a medical issue—it’s a justice issue, an ecological issue, and a community resilience issue. When women have access to the care, support, and resources they need before, during, and after childbirth, families thrive—and with them, cultures, biodiversity, and futures flourish.

💚 Connection, Culture, and Care

OneNature’s Wild Happiness framework has consistently shown that well-being is interconnected—spanning emotional, cultural, ecological, and economic dimensions. Our recent assessments in Rwanda and Laos highlight that when communities feel supported and connected to nature, social bonds and life satisfaction strengthen. The same is true when women feel heard, supported, and empowered.

Listening to women and families—and co-creating programs with their needs in mind—is essential to building not just healthy families, but healthy landscapes and legacies.
